MANAGEMENT BUYOUT OF ARUN TECHNOLOGY

A management team, led by Laurie Palmer and Ivan Hooker, with the help of some outside investors has purchased the assets of Arun Technology from Ametek Inc.

Arun Technology was founded in 1987, and pioneered the use of CCD technology in portable, mobile and desktop spectrometers for Metals Analysis. The company was acquired by the UK’s Roxboro Group plc in 1997. Arun operated as part of Solartron Analytical until the sale of many of the Solartron Group companies to Ametek Inc. in September 2005.

Laurie Palmer, most recently Sales and Marketing Manager at Arun was previously Managing Director of Hilger Analytical – one of the longest established scientific instrument makers - until Thermo Electron acquired and closed that business. Prior to Hilger he was Technical Director of Sheerness Steel Company.  Ivan Hooker most recently Arun’s Technical Sales Manager has held senior Sales and Marketing positions with Hilger Analytical, MBH Analytical and Spectro Analytical before joining Arun Technology in 2000.

Other members of the new management team are currently with Arun Technology and are joined by key personnel formerly with Hilger Analytical and Thermo Electron. Altogether they will bring to the market more than 250 man years of relevant experience in Optical Emission Spectroscopy and in particular experience with CCD detectors, traditional PMT systems with arc spark and glow discharge excitation and automation schemes for metals analysis.

A new company named Metalscan Limited will continue to offer the Arun Technology brand through the same well-established worldwide network of Sales and Service Distributors. Several thousand of Arun’s ‘Metalscan’ spectrometers are already in use maintaining quality in metal products in nearly every developed country of the world.

The company will be based in the Crawley area of West Sussex close to London’s Gatwick airport and near where the original Arun Technology started.
