ARUN Technology

Press release February 2003

As part of a recently enacted collaboration agreement, ARUN Technology has supplied a MetalScan M2560 desktop spectrometer to Castings Technology International (CTI) – a non-profit distributing research and technology organisation.

Based on CCD (Charge Coupled Device) technology, the MetalScan unit is the latest, high-performance model available from ARUN, designed and built in the UK.

In a package not much larger than a personal computer and with all the operations controlled by a colour touch screen, MetalScan spectrometers provide precise and accurate analysis comparable to that formerly only available from large and expensive units, using photo multiplier tubes and requiring bulky vacuum chambers and the need for strict environmental controls.

Used in conjunction with CTI’s aerospace facility, the optical emission spectrometer is calibrated for a wide range of air and vacuum melted alloys of aluminium, titanium, magnesium, iron, steel, nickel and cobalt. The two companies will co-operate to develop improved analytical programmes and techniques relevant to the manufacture of high performance castings.

ARUN Technology introduced CCD technology to the OES market in the late 1980s and specialises in the industrial analysis of metals, whether in a portable or a static laboratory format.
